Notifications: what reaches you
ForeYourLeague sends you one notification when there's something unread: "You have unread messages." Not one per message, not one per RSVP, not one per conversation.
Everything that happened is waiting for you in the app. The notification is just the nudge to go look.
Why one, and not one per thing
Because the alternative trains you to ignore them. A single round used to be able to produce a notification for every birdie in your group, every RSVP change, and every message in the league chat — so the one that mattered arrived in a stack of ones that didn't.
Now the detail lives in your Notifications feed in Messages, and your phone interrupts you once.
When does it arrive?
When you have something unread and you haven't already been told. After that it goes quiet — however much else arrives — until you next read something. Opening any conversation is enough; you don't have to clear everything.
So the pattern is: read, get on with your day, get nudged once when something new turns up, read again.
What always comes through
A few things are worth interrupting you for whatever else is going on, because knowing later isn't the same as knowing now:
- A hole in one, an albatross, or an eagle by someone in your group — the moment doesn't come back, and you'd want to know while you're still on the course.
- A tee-time reminder, if you run the league — about half an hour before the first tee when the round hasn't been started yet.
These arrive with their own wording, every time, and they ignore the setting below. If you want them to stop, turn off notifications for the device (see the last section).
The setting
On your profile page, under Notifications:
- Push notifications — the on/off for this device. Turning it off stops everything.
- Unread messages — whether you get nudged when something's unread.
That's it. There used to be a toggle per kind of alert — events, RSVPs, games, score milestones, and so on — and they're gone, because with one notification there's nothing per-kind left to switch.
If you manage a league there's one more, Every RSVP (managers), which is off unless you ask for it. That one isn't about notifications at all: it decides whether a record of each individual RSVP is kept for you, rather than just the milestones like a field filling up.
Turning the nudge off doesn't mean you stop being told
Your Notifications feed gets everything regardless of the setting. Turning the nudge off means you won't be interrupted — not that anything is withheld. The unread count on the Messages tab still moves, and so does the badge on the app icon if you've installed ForeYourLeague to your home screen.
Making it stop completely
Turn off Push notifications for the device on your profile page. That's the only switch that silences the always-come-through alerts above, and it's deliberately the one you have to reach for — so that nothing can quietly leave you with no way to stop being pinged.
