FYL runs in your phone's browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens full screen like any other app. On iPhone this step is also what makes notifications possible.
How do I install FYL on an iPhone?
You have to do this in Safari — it's the only iPhone browser that can add a real app to your home screen.
- Open FYL in Safari.
- Tap the Share button in the toolbar — the square with an arrow pointing up.
- Scroll down the list and choose Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
You'll now have an FYL icon on your home screen. Open FYL from that icon from now on, not from a Safari tab.
Why does my iPhone say I have to use Safari?
If you're reading FYL inside another app — tapping a link in Gmail, Messages, Instagram, or using Chrome or Firefox on your iPhone — you're in a browser that can't create a home screen app. It can make a bookmark, but that bookmark won't open full screen and won't be able to send you notifications.
To get out of it, copy the link and paste it into Safari, then follow the steps above. FYL gives you a Copy link button when it detects you're in one of these browsers.
Why can't I get notifications on my iPhone?
Apple only lets a website send notifications once you've added it to your home screen. Until you do that, there's no way to turn them on — the option won't work no matter what you tap.
So the order is: add FYL to your home screen, open it from the home screen icon, and then turn on notifications from your profile. Once installed you'll get tee time reminders, score updates, and event changes like any other app.
This applies to iPhone and iPad only. On Android, notifications work whether or not you've installed FYL.
How do I install FYL on Android?
Open FYL in Chrome. You'll usually see a prompt at the bottom of the screen offering to install it. If you don't, tap the ⋮ menu in the top right and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
Android installs are simpler than iPhone ones — notifications work either way, and you don't have to use a specific browser.
Do I lose anything by not installing it?
No. Everything in FYL works in a normal browser tab — scores, RSVPs, tee times, standings, live scoring. Installing gets you a home screen icon, a full screen view with no browser bars, and faster opening.
The one real difference is iPhone notifications, which need the install.
Will I have to log in again after installing?
Usually not on Android. On iPhone, the home screen app keeps its own login separate from Safari, so you may be asked to sign in once the first time you open it from the icon. After that it stays signed in.
How do I remove it?
Press and hold the FYL icon on your home screen and choose to delete or uninstall it, the same as any app. Your account and league data aren't affected — you can still open FYL in a browser, and reinstalling puts everything back.
