Messages is where you talk directly with the people in your leagues — one on one, in a small group, or in your league's own chat room — separate from the live scoring feed you see during a round.
How do I message someone on my team?
Go to Messages in the navigation menu, tap the compose button, and pick a person from the list. You can message anyone who shares an active league with you. If you've never messaged that person before, this opens a new one-on-one conversation; if you already have one, it opens the existing conversation instead.
Can I start a group chat with a few league mates?
Yes. From Messages, choose to start a group and name up to 10 other members of a league you share with them — handy for coordinating a specific tee time without looping in your whole league. The person who creates the group is its only organizer: they can delete the group for everyone, and anyone in it can leave at any time. Nobody else — including your league's commish or admins — can see or moderate a group they weren't added to.
Where do my league's announcements and group chat live?
Every league has two automatic conversations in your Messages list: a league chat that any active member can post in, and an announcements channel that only your commish or admins can post in (everyone can read both). You don't have to set these up — they're there as soon as you join a league. If you're looking for one and don't see it right away, use the search icon at the top of Messages to find it by name.
What do the numbers on the Messages icon mean?
That's your unread count — the same number appears on the Messages entry in the navigation menu and, if you've installed ForeYourLeague to your phone's home screen, as a badge on the app icon itself. It clears for a conversation the moment you open it. Group chats (both your league's chat and any smaller groups you're in) never send you a push notification for new messages — the unread badge is how you know something's waiting.
Where do my notifications show up?
Every account also has a Notifications conversation in Messages — a running feed of the alerts you'd otherwise only get as a push, like RSVP changes and roster activity. It's written automatically; you can't post to it. Check your notification preferences on your profile page to control which kinds of alerts you receive.
Can I delete a message I sent?
Yes — you can always delete your own message, in any conversation you're part of. Deleting one doesn't erase it silently: it's replaced with a "Message removed" notice so the conversation still makes sense to the rest of the group. A commish or admin can also remove someone else's message in their league's chat or announcements channel; nobody has that power in a one-on-one message or a player-created group, since those have no moderator by design.
Who can't be messaged?
Guests can't send or receive messages at all — they don't have login access to the platform. You also can't start a new conversation with someone you don't share an active league with; ForeYourLeague doesn't have a public member directory, so a shared league is what establishes that you know each other.
