FYL can display in light or dark, and by default it matches whatever your phone or computer is set to. You change it under Appearance in your account menu. Anyone signed in can change it, whatever their role in a league.
Where do I change light or dark mode?
Open the account menu — tap your initials or photo in the top-right corner — and look for Appearance. It has three choices:
- System — match whatever your phone or computer is set to. This is the default.
- Light — always light, whatever your device is set to.
- Dark — always dark, whatever your device is set to.
The change happens straight away. There is nothing to save.
What does System mean?
System follows your device's own light/dark setting instead of FYL keeping its own.
Most phones can switch themselves to dark in the evening and back in the morning. On System, FYL follows along as that happens — you do not need to reopen the app or change anything yourself.
If you would rather FYL always looked the same regardless of the time of day, choose Light or Dark instead.
Does my choice carry across my devices?
No. The setting is remembered per device and per browser.
If you use FYL on a phone and a laptop, each one keeps its own choice, and you set them separately. Choosing Dark on your phone does not change your laptop.
This also means that if you clear your browser data, or open FYL in a private/incognito window, it goes back to System.
Which parts of the app change?
Everything you use while signed in — your home screen, leagues, events, scorecards, standings, stats, betting, and the settings pages.
Three things deliberately do not follow your choice:
- Public pages you share with people outside your league — a league or event's public page, and invite links — are always light, so they look the same for everyone who opens them.
- The TV scoreboard is always dark, because it is built to be read across a room on a big screen.
- The remote for the TV scoreboard is always dark to match the screen it controls.
Will dark mode save my battery?
On a phone with an OLED screen it may help a little, because a dark screen lights fewer pixels. On other screens it makes no real difference.
Most people pick whichever is easier on their eyes rather than for battery — dark is often more comfortable for checking scores in the evening or on the course at dusk.
Why did FYL suddenly look dark when I never changed anything?
Because the default is System, and your device switched itself.
Phones set to switch to dark automatically in the evening will take FYL with them. If you would rather it stayed light all the time, open the account menu and set Appearance to Light.
