Caddie is the assistant built into ForeYourLeague: open it from the top of any page, type a question in plain words, and it answers from the help articles and from your own leagues and events. Caddie only reads — it never RSVPs for you, enters a score, or changes a setting.
Where do I find Caddie?
Tap the Caddie sparkle icon in the top bar, next to your profile picture. It is there on every page once you are signed in, on a phone as the icon alone and on a computer with the word "Caddie" beside it. On a phone Caddie fills the screen; on a computer it slides in from the right and stays open while you move around the app, so you can read the steps beside the page you are following them on.
Closing Caddie never loses anything. Tap the icon again and you are back in the same conversation, scrolled to where you were. If an answer finishes while Caddie is closed, a small dot appears on the icon.
There are two other ways in, and both start a new conversation instead of picking up the last one:
- The ✦ Ask Caddie about the data row on an event's Stats tab, which opens Caddie already pointed at that event.
- The Ask Caddie button in the help center's search box, which appears once you have typed a question of eight or more characters and puts that question in Caddie's message box. You need to be signed in to use it.
What can I ask Caddie?
You can ask how the app works, about the Rules of Golf, what is happening in your leagues, and about the scores in an event. A few examples:
- How the app works: "How does the waitlist work?" "How do I set a join passcode?" Caddie answers from the help articles and shows them as From: links under the answer.
- The Rules of Golf: "What happens if my ball goes out of bounds?" "Can I move a rake in a bunker?" "When do I get relief from a cart path?" Caddie answers in plain words from the rules articles in this help center, says what to do and any penalty, and adds a link to the official rule text. Your league's committee and its local rules always have the final say, and Caddie says so.
- Your leagues and events: "What do I have coming up?" "When's our next event?" "What's my tee time?" "Who hasn't replied to this event?" "Who's winning?" "Who's leading the season standings?"
- Your event's scores: "Rank players by their best 4 nines." "Who had the most birdies?" "Who had the best back 9?" These are worked out from the actual scorecards, not guessed.
Times and dates in answers always appear in your own time zone. Questions can be up to 500 characters, and you can ask follow-ups like "now just round 2" — Caddie remembers the last ten exchanges of the conversation.
What is the "About:" chip above the message box?
The About: chip shows which league, event, round or help article Caddie takes "this" to mean. It follows the page you are on: open Caddie on an event page and it reads "About: [event name]"; from the Stats tab with a round selected it adds the round. Caddie can still look beyond it — asking "how did I do last week" on an event page still finds your other events.
Tap the ✕ on the chip to leave it out of one question, for example a general how-to while you are on an event page. The chip comes back as soon as you send that question and whenever you go to another page. If you remove it and change your mind, tap + Ask about … to put it back.
On pages that belong to no league (such as your home page), there is no chip and Caddie works from your leagues overall.
What are the buttons Caddie gives me instead of a question?
When your question could mean more than one thing — which league, which event, which round — Caddie shows the options as buttons instead of asking you to type. Tap the one you meant and Caddie answers about it. The buttons are live on the newest answer only; on older answers they are just labels.
How do I get a table, and how do I download it?
Ask a score question and Caddie answers with a short sentence plus a table when the answer is a list. Tap a column heading to sort by it (numbers sort as numbers; tap again to reverse), and type in the filter box to narrow the rows. Download CSV saves the rows exactly as you currently have them sorted and filtered, ready to open in a spreadsheet.
Under every answer, What Caddie checked lists in plain words where the answer came from. On a computed answer it includes a small how link that shows the calculation, so you can check a number for yourself. Where an answer was read from an app page, a See: link takes you to that page and tucks Caddie away so you can see it.
How many questions can I ask?
You can ask Caddie 50 questions in any rolling 24 hours, and up to 20 of those can be score-calculation (table) questions. It counts back from the moment you ask, not from midnight. When ten or fewer are left, Caddie tells you how many remain. Caddie works on one question at a time, so you can send the next one once the current answer arrives.
If Caddie cannot answer, the answer is replaced by a short message and a Try again link. A try-again counts as a new question.
Are my conversations private?
Yes. Every conversation is private to you: other members of your leagues and league organizers cannot read it, and there is no screen anywhere in the app that shows one person's conversations to another. Your conversations are saved so you can return to them. Open the list with the menu button at the top of Caddie to switch between them or delete one — deleting is permanent. The + button starts a new conversation.
What won't Caddie do?
Caddie will not change anything: it cannot RSVP you, enter or fix a score, or change a league setting — ask it how, and it explains how to do it yourself. It answers only about the app, the Rules of Golf and your own leagues, and declines anything else. On a rules question it is not a referee: it does not know which local rules your league uses, so check with your organizer when it matters. And it can only show you what you could already see yourself — it will not reveal anything from a league you are not a member of or a page you cannot open.
Who can use Caddie?
Any signed-in member who is a player, admin or commish in at least one league can use it, and so can a new account that has not joined a league yet (it can still answer how-to questions). Guests cannot use Caddie. If you are a guest in every league you belong to, the Caddie icon does not appear; if you are a guest in one league and a player in another, Caddie answers about the second and declines the first.
What if Caddie says the help articles aren't reachable?
Caddie could not load the help articles at that moment, so it cannot answer how-to questions right now, though questions about your leagues, events and scores may still work. Try again in a minute, or use the search box on the help center to find the article yourself. If it keeps happening, use Contact support at the bottom of the help center.
